COLOUR THERAPY ON THE CATWALK

Here it comes the new season, and along with it my friends who begin to ask me what will be in vogue, what to buy and, above all, how to match their clothes. Since I work as a stylist and fashion consultant, I'm often asked for advice on style and trends. However, in recent years, my main advice is: what would you like to wear?

As a matter of fact, in the fashion industry we no longer have predominant trends, that diktat that used to drive our lives without leaving us alternative. Today, what you need to do is to focus on seasonal macrotrends, like colours and shapes that are then reinterpreted in different styles, from rock to pop and so on.

This season, for instance, you'll have to pay attention to small details to be trendy. Shorts and Bermuda shorts that you usually wear on summer will be part of the winter wardrobe this year. It doesn't matter whether they are denim, leather or velvet, the important thing is to match them with oversize sweaters and knee-high boots or Texan boots.

Colour is definitely a predominant feature of this fall/winter season and that's why lately we often hear about colour therapy. Our clothes, whether elegant or sporty, will be vitaminic: orange, green, purple and red are the most seen on the catwalks, but also yellow and light blue.

Black is a timeless classic, and yet for this season it has been replaced by brown and its nuances, from the darkest to the lightest. When it comes to prints, the leopard one will definitely rule the roost, in different colours (a clear example is Dolce & Gabbana who have interpreted it with strong colours such as yellow and red) and in different fabrics, from silk to wool and polyvinyl. While Blumarine has made it in its classic colour.

Playing with volumes and transparencies, using excessive volumes mixed with light-weight or tight garments is another seasonal trend. Maxi skirts with wool crop top or oversize sweaters with light-weight and close-fitting skirts, tight tracksuit with a sheepskin jacket; these are some of the mix-and-match trends.

The 80's minidresses will come back into fashion and it is now essential to dare with combinations, contrasts are super appreciated. Whether it's a faux-fur or a leather bomber jacket, a cropped cut is preferable, and the perfect match will be with high boots of any kind and material.

Fringes are also coming back into fashion, on clothes or shoes, they will make any look special: tone on tone or contrasting, this simple accessory gives clothes a more refined and glamorous allure, that classy look that is essential if you don't want to mingle with the crowd. As for accessories, here is the great return of flashy jewellery, from earrings to necklaces.

A bunch of gold and silver chains will cover our outfit and we could use them to enrich our look by playing with lengths and shapes, from the longest to the shortest, from the wide mesh to the narrow one as we like it best.
